Library Intern

The Bayport Public Library is looking for a library intern to assist library staff with programs and projects.

The intern will have the opportunity to learn about all facets of operations in a small city public library, including customer service and circulation duties, selection and collection management, copy cataloging, and planning and presenting library programs.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

·        Staffing the public service desk

·        Planning and presenting a storytime

·        Processing new materials

·        Staffing programs

The intern will be scheduled to work 10-12 hours a week for10 weeks.  Work days and times can be flexible, but will be onsite at the Bayport Public Library during library open hours:

Mondays             10-8

Tuesdays             10-6

Wednesdays      10-8

Thursdays           10-8

Fridays                  10-5

Saturdays            10-3

 

Requirements:  The applicant must be currently enrolled in a library science program.  This internship should fulfill practicum or internship requirements, and such requirements may be communicated with the Library Director.

Desired qualifications: Interest in public library service, customer service skills, knowledge of popular authors, ability to conduct internet and database searches, knowledge of eBook platforms.

Pay rate:  The intern will be paid $20.00 per hour.  This position is eligible for Earned Safe and Sick Time. There are no other benefits offered with this position.  

Summer internship (June – August) application deadline: May 30, 2025
